Well, what can I say. It has been over a year since I last posted. In fact, it has been so long that Buffalo Girl is again pregnant and due to deliver any day now. Also, Mama had a calf (Petal, a girl , brown, not black like Mama) in May and Midge had a calf (a boy, black like her) in June. In early spring, Cocoa had a boy, Cocoa Pop, and Calfie also had a boy. It was certainly a productive spring! Unfortunately, these are the last of Winston’s offspring because we had to send him to the freezer; he was passing through the fences and visiting the neighbor. It was hard to see him go but his knees were getting bad..a problem in a bull who is expected to perform stud duty.
We also had a great fruit year. The spring was mild and we had plenty of rain. The blueberries were absolutely. And the pear trees were groaning with fruit! If only we had been here to reap the benefits but we were lucky to be able to travel to Ireland, Scotland, and Wales to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday and Amanda’s graduation–she was Salutatorian!
Now that Amanda is off to college, we have had an opportunity to consider what we need to do next. What we have come to realize is that our window for successfully launching our farm has closed while we spent our total energy on getting Amanda launched. Now, in our sixties, we find we don’t have the heart to continue where we left off 4 years ago. We are going to need to make some serious changes. And that will be the subject of my next posting…hopefully within a year of this one. 😉
